A New Adventure

A few years ago I started a blog to share some of my poetry with the world, but like with most things in my life, I got bored with it and so it got lost in the endless darkness that contains countless other cyber-junk, and now I cannot even remember how to find it. Never mind though, because it has been many years since I have written any poetry; my creativity being channeled in a different direction lately.
I endeavor to share some of my day to day projects here, (keeping in mind that in my family the running joke is that I never finish anything).

You might be wondering what sort of craft I do, and, although that is a fair question, it is a tricky one for me to answer as I am constantly on the lookout for something new and interesting to do.
Currently, I am in the process of knitting a blanket for a baby that is due to arrive later in the year.  Oh and I also have some half formed idea of making a koi pond replica in a Chapstick Collector's tin (I think a visual representation might do wonders here)...

And so: Welcome to my life...

Let's start with the fish pond:

It kinda makes more sense now huh?

So with all of that it takes quite a while. First I made the fish and aquatic plants using polymer clay, the lily was especially tricky.
Then I went into my garden and found some stones which I glued to the inside of a painted Chapstick tin.  (Waiting for it to dry took FOREVER) Next I covered the whole lot with a bit of gloss vanish and that is where I am at the moment. I will let it all dry for maybe up to a week, depending on the weather and then carry on, and perhaps even finish this project.
My mother has a koi pond at her house and I have asked her to take a few photos of their fish to give me an accurate visual reference before I paint these. (Its a lot harder than you think to take good pictures of fish. And yes, I know that I could just find some on Google, but this way it will feel more personal.)

Now on to the blanket:

I found the pattern on Ravelry as a free download; it's called "Waltz of the Flowers" by  Aigul’ Al’zhanova. I have however mad a few slight changes the biggest of these being that I am not knitting it in garter stitch as I really don't like the look of that particular stitch...

I am using a pale lavender crochet cotton. It is soft and light, making it perfect for this particular project...

Alrighty. That is it. Until next time,
